Mac security specialists Intego have alerted the Mac community to the presence of malware in installs for many popular screen savers and at least one freeware app. The malware, called OSX/OpinionSpy, is a variant of a well-known form of Windows spyware which has been circulating for at least two years.

In the latest development in the recent Adobe security saga, the developer has released a patch including 32 bug fixes for its embattled Flash software. Almost all of these vulnerabilities allowed for the possibility of remote execution of malicious code, and the update is recommended as urgent for all Flash users.

The recently discovered HellRTS-D spyware app for Mac, now also known as Pinhead-B, has been spotted “in the wild” for the first time. It is being disguised as an installer for the iPhoto imaging program; attempting to install the program will actually expose the user to HellRTS.
