Apple has hired Window Snyder as senior security product manager.
Snyder is a former security strategist at Microsoft, and most recently served as head of security for Mozilla.
Do Macs need virus protection? Hmm. Well it certainly looks as though they need a security strategist from Microsoft.
In our opinion, this is a significant move by Apple.
It’s essentially a nod to the growing criticisms that the company doesn’t pay enough attention to security issues, even though the threats to Mac security and the interest among hackers in targeting Mac are known to be growing by the day.
The security performance of Mozilla’s Firefox browser improved markedly during Snyder’s time there, so this looks like a good move for Apple, and one that was long overdue.
