iServices Mac Trojan – iWork 09 Mac Trojan

by admin on September 4, 2009

Has your Mac been infected by the iServices trojan?

How do you know your Mac is infected by iServices?

Usually when you start iWork 09, you will be asked for an administrator password. Once you put the password in, the iServices.a mac trojan is launched.

Once installed, the Trojan notifies the malicious server and hackers that the Mac has been compromised and to waits for instructions to steal data. The iServices.a Trojan is an example of the new way hackers are attacking computers: Data stealing malware for personal gain. Gone are the days when hackers just wanted to cause a nuisance.

How was I infected?

This malware is usually the result of downloading iWork illegally from sites such as BitTorrent, Pirate Bay and other P2P file sharing websites. It is estimated that over 20,000 copies of iWork 09 had been downloaded this way.

The limited number of Mac trojans that are out there at the present time, often leads Mac users into a false sense of security. Although there are few Mac trojans out there now, that doesn’t mean there will never be a virulent form of malware that threatens the Mac.

How to get rid of iServices trojan?

Start with a good mac antivirus program such as Norton Mac Antivirus or Kaspersky for Mac.
