Apples Addresses Security Vulnerabilities on Safari 4.0.5 for Windows and Mac

by admin on March 12, 2010

On March 12, Apple released an update to Safari, to version 4.0.5, to the public. The update addresses 15 previously undisclosed vulnerabilities in Apple’s web browser. According to Apple, the majority of the vulnerabilities had allowed for the possibility of “unexpected application termination or arbitrary code execution” upon exposure to malicious code, though a small number were thought to involve the possibility of information exposure.

Of the problems addressed by this update, nine are directly linked to the Webkit rendering engine. Webkit is also part of the iPhone version of Safari, but the iPhone’s version usually isn’t updated with the same regularity as the Mac version. This means that the same security issues may still be present in the iPhone version of Safari.

The update applies to both the Mac and Windows versions of Safari.  Learn more on the release of Safari 4.0.5 security update.
